LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has reacted to the killing of a Nigerian citizen in Pune, India, describing the incident as a national loss while demanding a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The victim, identified as Emeka Christian, was allegedly beaten to death by two fellow Nigerians, Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze, following a dispute said to be linked to a romantic disagreement.
In an official statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, and signed by the commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocol, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NIDCOM Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa, conveyed her condolences to Christian’s family, noting that no family should be forced to endure such a devastating loss.
Beyond expressing sympathy, the commission called on Indian law enforcement authorities to ensure accountability.
“NIDCOM calls on the relevant Indian authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that justice is served without delay,” the statement read.

The commission also used the incident to remind Nigerians in the diaspora of their responsibilities while living overseas.
“As ambassadors of our great nation in your respective domains, your actions abroad reflect on Nigeria’s image,” NIDCOM stated, urging citizens to embrace unity, respect and lawful behaviour at all times.
Reinforcing its message, the commission stressed that violence should never be an option within the Nigerian community abroad.
“Violence has no place among us. Together, we can build a stronger and more positive diaspora community,” the statement added.
NIDCOM further encouraged Nigerians living outside the country to act as their brother’s keeper, resolve disputes through dialogue and consistently uphold values that promote peace and dignity, regardless of their location.
