OGUN, Nigeria — (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The family of one-year-old John Jonathan has made an urgent appeal for public assistance after doctors confirmed that the toddler requires immediate surgery to survive a congenital heart defect.
John, who was born in 2025, was diagnosed shortly after birth with a hole in his heart, a condition doctors initially believed might close naturally as he grew older. However, recent medical evaluations have confirmed that the defect has persisted, leaving corrective surgery as the only life-saving option.
Medical experts estimate the cost of the surgery at N10 million, an amount far beyond the financial capacity of John’s parents, a fashion designer and a school teacher, who have struggled to manage his condition since birth.

“We held on to hope that his heart would heal on its own,” the parents said in an emotional appeal. “But the doctors have now told us that surgery is the only way to save his life. We are pleading with kind-hearted Nigerians and the international community to help us give our son a chance to live.”
The family is calling on individuals, corporate organisations, foundations, government agencies, and health-focused NGOs to come to John’s aid, stressing that time is critical.
