ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has announced that the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, will be laid to rest on January 30, 2026.
The governor made the announcement on Wednesday during a meeting of the State Executive Council at the Government House in Yenagoa, where he also unveiled a four-day funeral programme approved by the state government, the family, and the church.
Diri explained that a funeral committee earlier constituted by the state government, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Nimibofa Ayawe, had concluded consultations with relevant stakeholders to finalise the burial arrangements.
“Today, January 14, we are using this opportunity to formally announce the burial programme of our departed deputy governor,” Diri said.

Governor Diri noted that the funeral programme was carefully drawn up by the committee and subsequently approved by him in line with state protocol.
