LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has stirred conversation online after openly accusing fellow music star Wizkid of usurping his nickname.
The outspoken musician made the claim during a recent livestream that quickly caught fans’ attention across social media.
The moment unfolded when a Wizkid supporter joined the live session and suggested that Kuti should drop his long-used nickname, “Big Bird,” because Wizkid is popularly associated with “Biggest Bird.”

Rather than brushing off the comment, Kuti responded with a blunt rebuttal. According to Seun Kuti, the nickname did not originate with Wizkid. He insisted that he had been known as “Big Bird” long before the Grammy-winning singer co-opted the name and made it his own.
Kuti pushed back against the idea that he should make any changes, maintaining that originality matters in the creative space.
“Wizkid stole my name. Tell your fave to be original. Why are you telling me to change my name? Sorry, I can’t change it. This name has been here since. I am the first to come up with it. I am not dragging it with anybody, please,” Kuti stated.
The exchange has since fueled online discussions. Fans on both sides continue to weigh in, while Seun Kuti appears unfazed, standing firm on his claim and showing no intention of letting go of a nickname he says has always been his.
