LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has once again found himself at the center of legal drama after a court denied him bail, reinforcing growing concerns over his repeated run-ins with the law.
The Federal High Court sitting in Ota, Ogun State, on Monday ordered the singer’s remand following his arraignment on nine criminal counts, including assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest.
The charges stem from a violent New Year’s Day incident at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, an episode that has reignited scrutiny of the artist’s long history of brushes with authorities.
According to the Ogun State Police, Portable allegedly attacked his fourth baby mama, Ashabi Simple, alongside other individuals during the confrontation.
Prosecutors further accused him of assaulting a female police officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.
The charge sheet also alleges that the singer stole a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, reportedly belonging to one Ileyemi Damilola and purchased from Wally Dex Auto.

Several individuals, including police officers and civilians, were listed as victims in the case.
During court proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses to the alleged assault. However, the presiding judge declined to grant Portable bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court.
“The officer must be present before the court can consider bail,” the judge ruled, ordering that the singer remain in custody until January 19, for a fresh bail hearing.
The case follows the circulation of a viral video showing Portable in police custody, sparking public debate and prompting police to open an investigation into a separate clip that appeared to show the singer being assaulted while detained.
Meanwhile, Ashabi Simple has spoken publicly about the incident, alleging that Portable accosted her and her family during the festive period, threatening them with an axe.
She claimed he demanded their phones, punched her brother in the eye, slapped her sister over a comment, and later pursued her with the weapon after she fled.
She further alleged that he poured water on her from a pot and began chanting incantations in a language she did not understand, escalating fears around the encounter.
The latest development adds to Portable’s growing reputation for controversy beyond music, with the bail denial marking a critical moment in the life of the controversial singer.
