ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not sacrifice the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in an attempt to placate Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as the political crisis in the state drags on.
Fayose made the assertion during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday while responding to the prolonged power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, a feud that has continued to destabilise Rivers State’s political landscape.
According to the former governor, Wike occupies a far more strategic political position in the calculations of President Tinubu than Fubara, arguing that there is no incentive for the President to side against the former Rivers governor.
He said, “But let me say this to Nigerians, the Asiwaju that I know will not get rid of a Wike for a Fubara,”
“Wike came from Rivers to support President Tinubu.”
He further attributed Wike’s continued relevance to what he described as visible performance in Abuja and his capacity to deliver electoral victories for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Wike is in Abuja performing. We’ve never had it so good in Abuja. Even a blind man cannot deny that,” Fayose stated.
He also credited Wike with the APC’s recent local government victories in Rivers State and predicted similar outcomes in the upcoming local government elections in the Federal Capital Territory.

“The local government elections in Rivers were won by the APC courtesy of Wike. The coming local government elections in Abuja, APC will also win. So what else does the President want from Wike?” he asked.
Commenting on reports that Governor Fubara had sought President Tinubu’s intervention abroad, Fayose suggested that the move reflected political desperation rather than strength.
“If Governor Fubara has gone to meet the President, then it shows he needs help,” Fayose said.
“When you refuse to humble yourself and look for peace, you will begin to run helter-skelter. What he is looking for is already within his reach.”
Fayose also addressed the internal turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rejecting claims that President Tinubu bears responsibility for the opposition party’s challenges.
“The problems in the PDP are not the fault of Asiwaju.

“If there is a failure in my house, God forbid, it is not the fault of my neighbour”, he said.
He described the PDP as a party weakened by internal conflicts and self-inflicted divisions, arguing that its current troubles stem from unresolved leadership struggles.
“The PDP caused an insurrection against itself. It is a house divided, and in politics, survival of the fittest always applies,” Fayose added.
