ENUGU, NIGERIA (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Senator Nenadi Usman-led leadership of the Labour Party (LP) has firmly rejected claims by Barrister Julius Abure that he remains the party’s National Chairman, insisting that both the Supreme Court and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have clearly ruled against him.
The party described Abure’s continued self-identification as national chairman as an act of impersonation, noting that it runs contrary to the Supreme Court judgment delivered on April 4, 2025, as well as INEC’s official position recognising a different leadership structure.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja and signed by the party’s Interim National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the Usman-led interim executive called on the Prosecutor-General of the Federation to immediately act on recommendations seeking Abure’s prosecution over alleged impersonation and related offences.
The statement was issued in response to an earlier release by Abure, in which he accused INEC of misinterpreting both the Supreme Court judgment and its decision to block the upload of Labour Party aspirants for the February Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections.
Reacting, Senator Usman declared that the Labour Party was “not for sale,” warning Abure and his associates to desist from what she described as attempts to commercialise the party’s political structure for personal gain.

She accused Abure and his supporters of engaging in serial litigation, alleging that they had filed more than 20 court cases against INEC and the recognised Labour Party leadership across various courts nationwide, particularly within the FCT.
According to the statement, such actions amount to an abuse of court processes and reflect a deliberate effort to destabilise the party, undermine internal democracy, and reverse the gains achieved under the current leadership.
The party further described as “delusional” Abure’s claim that INEC had moved on from the leadership dispute, stressing that the electoral body merely reminded him of subsisting Supreme Court and Federal High Court judgments that had removed him from office.
It added that INEC’s refusal to issue access codes for uploading candidates’ details was in compliance with those judgments, especially amid allegations that Abure illegally collected money from individuals under the false promise of securing them candidacy in the FCT elections.
The party reiterated its call on the Prosecutor-General of the Federation to fast-track Abure’s prosecution, insisting that accountability must be enforced to protect democratic institutions.
Reaffirming its unity, the Labour Party said it remains committed to building a Nigeria founded on justice, equity, and good governance under the leadership of Abia State Governor, Alex Chioma Otti, Senator Nenadi Usman as National Chairman, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as National Secretary.
The party also urged its members nationwide particularly youths, women, and aspirants participating in ongoing registration exercises and congresses to remain focused and resolute as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
