LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Legendary Fuji musician Saheed Osupa has finally reacted after a viral prophecy predicting his death spectacularly failed, sparking nationwide outrage and police action.
The controversy began when a self-styled Muslim cleric, Alfa Olopameta, publicly declared that Osupa would die on January 10, 2026. The alarming claim, delivered in a TikTok video quickly spread online, sending shockwaves through the industry and among the singer’s fans.
In the now-infamous clip, Olopameta boasted of supernatural encounters, insisting he spoke with God daily and that angels and ancient prophets bowed before him. He claimed Osupa’s death could only be averted through the sacrifice of a pure white ram, even swearing by the Qur’an to validate the prophecy.

However, events soon took a dramatic turn. After January 10 passed without incident, the cleric resurfaced in a separate video recorded from an undisclosed bush location.
Visibly shaken, Olopameta admitted the prophecy was false, blaming it on hallucinations rather than divine revelation. He pleaded publicly with Osupa, religious leaders and Nigerians for forgiveness, promising never to issue such predictions again.
Further fueling the backlash, a leaked phone conversation later revealed Olopameta confessing that the prophecy was fabricated to gain attention. The admission intensified public anger, especially as the cleric was already being sought by police for allegedly inciting public disturbance and spreading false information online.
Meanwhile, Osupa addressed the issue directly during a live performance on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Without mincing words, the Fuji icon warned against reckless prophecies and ill wishes.

“Fake Alpha and prophet please don’t wish me dead. Everyone who wishes me dead will die in my place. Close enemies, unknown enemies, enemies of my career and the ones in my neighborhood, better don’t wish me dead, or you would die before me,” Osupa told the crowd.
The singer’s strong response resonated widely online, religious scholars have also weighed in, warning that unregulated spiritual claims on social platforms can mislead followers and create unnecessary fear.
Police authorities say efforts to locate Olopameta have intensified, citing potential charges related to false alarms and cyber offences.
With the prophecy now discredited and Osupa unharmed, Olopameta’s apology video released while in hiding has done little to ease calls for accountability.
