ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Barrister Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo, sister to its immediate past president and publisher of Realnews, Ms. Maureen Chigbo.
Barrister Chigbo was reportedly murdered by kidnappers in Abuja on January 5, 2026.
This was contained in a statement was signed by GOCOP Publicity Secretary, Kemi Yesufu, and dated January 9, 2026.
In a condolence letter signed by GOCOP President, Mr. Danlami Nmodu, mni, and General Secretary, Mr. Sufuyan Ojeifo, the Guild described the loss as tragic and deeply distressing.
GOCOP recalled the late lawyer’s professional relationship with the Guild, noting that she rendered legal services to the organisation with diligence and commitment.

The leadership also commended her dedication to the legal profession and her unwavering pursuit of justice.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we learned of the tragic death of your beloved sister, Barrister Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo. Her brutal murder by kidnappers in Abuja on January 5, 2026, has left us shattered and deeply disturbed,” the letter read in part.
The Guild acknowledged the pain faced by the Chigbo family, describing the circumstances of her death as both violent and unexpected, and assured them of its solidarity during the difficult period.
GOCOP further described the late Barrister Chigbo as a committed legal practitioner whose legacy would continue to inspire colleagues and those who benefited from her professional guidance.
“As a community of online publishers, we are deeply affected by the loss of this remarkable individual who was very close to us and offered tremendous services to the Guild when we needed her professional guidance,” the letter added.
The Guild also extended its condolences to the entire Chigbo family, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), FCT Branch, as well as the associates and friends of the deceased.
