ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Former Kano State governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly weighing a move to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as opposition figures reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Local media in Kano report that Kwankwaso is in talks with the ADC about forging an alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The discussions come amid indications that much of Kwankwaso’s political network in Kano is gravitating towards the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a shift said to involve members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, his core supporters.

Negotiations are reportedly ongoing, even as Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf is expected to defect to the APC, a development believed to have created tensions within the Kwankwasiyya camp.
A former NNPP official, Habib Hisham, who has since joined the ADC, said the party is open to welcoming Kwankwaso in Kano, noting that such a merger could play a major role in shaping the 2027 elections.
According to him, “I know our party leaders are working on bringing Kwankwaso to join the ADC. We will be happy to welcome him.”
