ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Abdullahi Halims, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to confront the country’s insecurity crisis head-on.

Halims stated this in Abuja on Friday at the public presentation of From Silence to Strength, a book authored by Jennifer Alih.

According to him, the security situation has become a priority for the Tinubu administration, especially after a spike in violent attacks prompted President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on November 26 and approve the recruitment of thousands of additional security personnel.

Halims noted that the National Assembly was prepared to review existing laws and introduce new legislation aimed at curbing violence and strengthening public safety.

He said, “You can see that the government is very determined to curb violence, banditry and insecurity.

“There are laws we can review or amend, and others we can enact that is the core of lawmaking.”

Earlier, author Jennifer Alih said she was inspired by alarming data showing the widespread nature of violence across the country.

“Statistics tell us that one in three persons will experience violence in their lifetime,” she said.

“Every 10 minutes, someone is killed by someone they know. These are not just numbers they are sons, daughters, parents, neighbours and friends.”

She described From Silence to Strength, along with its supporting programme, The Victoria Show, as a national movement focused on preventing violence, not just discussing it.

“Violence is not destiny. Violence is not culture. Violence is not normal,” she said.

“With collaboration, strategic investment and the courage to confront hard truths, violence can be defeated.”

The event brought together advocates, policymakers, and partners committed to ending the culture of silence around violence and supporting safer communities.
