ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Bola Oyebamiji, on Saturday emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming Osun State governorship election.
Oyebamiji clinched the position after a motion was moved by two governorship aspirants, Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare, at the primary election venue within the premises of Ebunoluwa Group of Schools, Osogbo.
The Chairman of the APC governorship primary committee and Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, subsequently put the motion to a voice vote, which received overwhelming approval from party members present.

Okpebholo later announced, “By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji, as the governorship candidate of our party.”
Oyebamiji arrived at the venue in the company of the committee’s co-chairman, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, and other members of the governorship primary committee, including Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who represented the Lagos State Governor, and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
Earlier on Tuesday, the 1,660 delegates tasked with electing the APC candidate for the party’s December 13 governorship primary had emerged.
There were also strong indications that the seven APC governorship aspirants in the state had agreed to step down in support of a consensus candidate following a late-night meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on Wednesday.
A former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, while speaking on TVC News’ Politics Tonight on Wednesday, publicly declared his support for the party’s decision to adopt a consensus candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Omisore, who was among the seven aspirants disqualified by the APC Screening Committee over alleged breaches of party guidelines and electoral rules, said he accepted the outcome based on advice from President Bola Tinubu.
