ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The All Progressives Congress (APC) has attributed the recent wave of defections from opposition parties to internal mismanagement rather than any undue influence from the ruling party.
Speaking on Arise TV on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka stated that challenges faced by parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) were largely self-inflicted.
“When you stress that the problem is internal, it is their own failure to govern effectively that creates panic and prompts members to leave,” Morka said.
He argued that political parties are meant to serve as vehicles for competition, allowing members to contest elections and aspire to leadership roles.

“When that platform becomes immobile or inoperable, members naturally look elsewhere,” he added.
Morka reiterated that the APC remains committed to democratic norms and has maintained open doors to all Nigerians.
He also criticised opposition spokespeople for focusing excessively on the APC instead of strengthening their own parties.
His comments come amid widespread defections over the past year, including governors Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), who have all joined the ruling party, reshaping the political landscape in their respective states.
The ADC has described these defections as evidence of personal convenience and a lack of political conviction among the governors.
