ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Senate descended into a rowdy session on Thursday during the screening of ambassadorial nominee Reno Omokri, following a heated disagreement between lawmakers over the procedure for his confirmation.
Trouble began shortly after a motion was moved for Omokri and other nominees to “take a bow and leave,” a common confirmation practice.
Senator Ali Ndume insisted that the motion must first be formally seconded before any comments could be made.
However, Senator Adams Oshiomhole strongly objected, demanding to speak before the motion was seconded.

He argued that Omokri’s nomination required public scrutiny due to what he described as “raging issues in the public domain.”
“I think I need to speak on this in the public interest because we cannot pretend we have not heard the stories,” Oshiomhole said, attempting to justify his objection.
Ndume repeatedly interrupted, maintaining that Senate rules prevented any debate until the pending motion had been seconded.
The disagreement quickly escalated as both lawmakers stood their ground, leading to shouting matches and open insults across the chamber.
For several minutes, the session was thrown into chaos until the presiding officer intervened and called the chamber to order.
Once calm returned, Senator Joel Onowakpo Thomas seconded the initial motion.
As a result, Reno Omokri was not asked any questions, and the Senate proceeded to allow all the affected nominees to take a bow and leave.
