LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Music powerhouse Don Jazzy has offered new insight into the extraordinary effort behind Rema’s worldwide smash “Calm Down,” revealing the massive investment required to turn the record into a global sensation.
The Mavin Records boss stunned fans after disclosing the $5 million price tag behind the song’s meteoric rise.
During a sit-down with OAP Toolz, Don Jazzy explained that promoting a breakout record on the world stage comes with immense financial responsibility. He revealed that the label spent between ₦6 billion to ₦7.2 billion in Nigerian Naira to push “Calm Down” across continents.

“We spent close to 4–5 million dollars to get ‘Calm Down’ to where it is. As you conquer this place now, then you go to the next place,” he said, explaining the scale of resources required to turn a hit song into a worldwide cultural force.
He added, “So people don’t know. The lifestyle cost, na you no know.”
The track, featured on Rema’s 2022 album Rave & Roses, first went viral through TikTok before exploding globally with its remix featuring Selena Gomez.
It went on to spend 57 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 3, and became the first Afrobeats song to surpass one billion streams in the United States.
Today, “Calm Down” boasts more than two billion streams on Spotify, securing its place as the most-played African song on the platform while earning a 7x Platinum milestone.
