ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Bauchi State Government, through the State Trade Facilitation Centre, has finalised plans to launch a statewide sensitisation campaign on the Federal Government’s new tax regime, which is set to commence in January 2026.

This was revealed on Thursday by the centre’s coordinator, Dr. Bala Mahmud, during a courtesy visit to the Bauchi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture.

Mahmud explained that the campaign, to be conducted in partnership with major stakeholders, is designed to enlighten residents and the business community on the updated tax laws and their implications.

He noted that the initiative stems from amendments to four key tax Acts, signed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025, adding that the reforms introduce major adjustments to tax administration nationwide.

“The new tax regime comes with certain changes and modifications in existing tax laws.

Many taxpayers across the country have limited knowledge about how the Nigerian tax system works.

Our goal is to bridge that gap and provide the public especially the business community with sufficient information on what the new system entails,” he said.

Mahmud further stated that although the business community is a primary focus, the sensitisation effort will also cover the general population, pointing out that “everyone is a taxpayer,” whether directly or indirectly through consumption taxes.

“We call on residents to participate actively in the sessions.

Tax compliance becomes easier when citizens are well informed. In developed countries, people file their tax returns from the comfort of their homes.

This level of efficiency is what we hope to entrench by working closely with the State Board of Internal Revenue,” he said.

In his response, BACCIMA Vice President, Bala Usman, described the proposed campaign as timely and valuable for businesses across Bauchi State.

“The tax reforms approved by the Federal Government come with benefits for individuals and businesses. Creating awareness is crucial so that people understand these advantages and can adjust accordingly,” he said.
