ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara was on Friday formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after receiving his party membership card at Government House, Port Harcourt.
The card was presented by the Rivers State APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, who represented the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, during a courtesy visit by the state executive.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Fubara said his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was driven by his commitment to deepen political unity and accelerate development across Rivers State.
He said aligning with the ruling party at the federal level had become necessary to ensure stability and sustain the gains made during recent political challenges in the state.

Fubara also described his support for President Bola Tinubu as both a strategic step and a gesture of appreciation, noting that the President played a critical role in safeguarding the Rivers government at a time of uncertainty.
The governor maintained that Rivers State was now “one political family” with the federal government, adding that the environment was more conducive for strengthening the APC and securing what he called a “smooth political sail” toward the 2027 general elections.
He assured the party’s national leadership that the state would remain a strong APC base under his watch and pledged to meet the needs of party executives and structures across the state.
Fubara also thanked supporters and leaders who stood by him and urged them to increase their commitment as the state enters a “new phase of political consolidation.”
In a message delivered by Okocha, APC National Chairman Yilwatda congratulated the governor for what he described as a patriotic and well-considered decision.
He said Fubara’s entry into the party had opened “a new chapter of unity” among political actors in Rivers State.
The event was attended by several senior party figures, including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who was in the state for the commissioning of the Ikwerre Road-Igwuruta-Airport Road project and the flag-off of a new bypass around the Port Harcourt International Airport.
