LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-The newly elected President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, has been arrested following a tragic car accident in Surulere, Lagos, that reportedly claimed the life of a pedestrian.
Just two days earlier, Yakubu made history by becoming the first Northern Nigerian to lead the Guild since its formal registration in 1998.
He narrowly defeated veteran actress Rita Daniels, securing 116 votes to her 113, with three ballots invalidated in a closely contested election.
The celebratory mood surrounding his victory was abruptly halted by the fatal crash.

At press time, no official statement has yet clarified the cause of the crash or the potential charges he may face.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Nollywood community, with many fans and industry stakeholders urging that Yakubu be presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
As fans await tangible news, observers note that the coming days will be critical in determining whether he will face charges, be released, or exonerated.
