LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-In a decisive move to protect public safety, the Enugu State Ministry of Health has arrested a fake doctor and sealed an illegal hospital operating under dangerous conditions in Obollo-Etiti, Udenu Local Government Area.

The operation, led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. George Ugwu, followed credible intelligence and multiple complaints from concerned residents about suspicious medical activities at the facility.

Upon investigation, officials uncovered alarming evidence of unlicensed medical practice and unhygienic conditions unfit for any form of healthcare delivery.

According to a statement signed by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Ugodu Avemaria, the suspect, identified as Kenneth Mamah, had been running a facility known as St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Ada-ulo Obollo-Etiti Community.

Despite having no medical licence, professional training, or state authorization, he allegedly performed surgical procedures and other treatments, putting unsuspecting patients at serious risk.

Furthermore, the state’s Director of Medical Services Dr. Amaechi Mgbodile, emphasized that the closure of the illegal hospital aligns with the state government’s campaign to eliminate medical quackery, ensure patient safety, and enforce minimum operational standards across all healthcare institutions.

He warned that no facility is permitted to conduct surgical procedures without proper registration, qualified personnel, sterile equipment, and an approved theatre environment.

The fake doctor has been handed over to security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution, in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s zero-tolerance policy on quackery.

Meanwhile, Udenu Local Government Chairman, Aka Eze Aka, assured residents that surveillance across rural communities will be intensified to identify and shut down other unlicensed health practitioners endangering lives.

Ultimately, this swift enforcement action serves as a strong reminder for the public to verify medical credentials before seeking treatment.
