LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Lagos-based content creator Big Mimz has ignited heated conversations across social media after declaring that dating in Lagos is a scam.
Her blunt take on modern relationships has split opinions, shedding light on what many describe as the city’s transactional dating culture.
In a recent chat with Egungun of Lagos, the outspoken influencer claimed that relationships in the city have become deceptive and money-driven, suggesting that financial gain often overshadows genuine affection.
“Dating in Lagos is a scam. If you don’t have money, you shouldn’t be in a relationship because Lagos boys can use you. So, it’s better to use them for their money before they use you too,” she said.

Though Big Mimz admitted she hasn’t personally experienced heartbreak, her comments mirror the growing skepticism among young Nigerians navigating love amid Lagos fast-paced lifestyle, social pressures, and economic hustle.
She further argued that “fake life” has become a survival tool in the city’s social scene, claiming that many people who appear successful got there by pretending first and then working twice as hard to keep up the show.
“When you date for money, love will come. Fake life wins in Lagos. If you check the people who have made it, they all faked it,” she added.
Her remarks have triggered mixed reactions online. While some agree that money now drives most relationships, others insist that true love still thrives in Lagos for those who seek it genuinely.
