ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the Anambra State election, Dr. George Moghalu, has rejected the result of the November 8, 2025 governorship poll, in which incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Moghalu, who spoke to journalists in his Nnewi office on Sunday, less than six hours after INEC announced the final results, said he was deeply dissatisfied with the conduct of the election and alleged that serious irregularities occurred during the process.
He claimed the exercise was tainted by widespread vote buying and reports of underage voting in some areas, describing it as a complete departure from the standards expected in a democratic election.
He said, “The November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, in my view, fell short of expectations. I hereby reject it in its entirety.
“I have contested in previous elections, but this one was different. The level of vote buying was alarming.”

Moghalu alleged that underage voters participated freely in the election, raising concerns about the credibility of the voters’ register and the overall integrity of the process.
“Children who were not supposed to be carrying voter cards were openly seen with them and allowed to vote,” he claimed.
“These are issues that raise questions about the integrity of the process.”
He also disclosed that his campaign team received reports from polling units where the Labour Party name appeared on the ballot without the party’s logo, making it difficult for voters to locate and identify the LP on the ballot paper.
Moghalu said he would issue a more detailed statement after receiving a comprehensive report from his agents across the state.
“Once I get the full report of the election, we will analyse it and then determine our next course of action. But one thing is clear: I reject the result,” he declared.
When asked whether he planned to challenge the outcome in court, the LP candidate said it would be premature to take that decision until all available reports had been reviewed.
“We will study all the information from our agents before deciding the next step,” he noted.
Responding to claims that some LP agents were absent from certain polling units, Moghalu explained that some left their posts out of frustration with the irregularities they observed during the voting process.
“Some of our agents may have walked away in frustration after seeing things that were not right,” he said.
The Anambra State election saw APGA’s Soludo declared the winner by INEC, defeating Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other contenders, including Moghalu of the LP.
Moghalu maintained that despite the official declaration, the election was a sham that did not reflect the genuine will of Anambra voters.
