In a show of heightened preparedness, the Nigeria Police Force has intensified aerial and ground surveillance operations across the state’s 5,718 polling units. The move, according to the state police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, is part of a comprehensive security strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful, safe, and transparent electoral process.
Ikenga explained that the air patrol teams are working in coordination with ground troops, marine operatives, and tactical units stationed at strategic locations. Their mandate includes monitoring movement patterns, detecting suspicious gatherings, and relaying real-time intelligence to commanders for quick response.
Reaffirming the Force’s neutrality, Ikenga said the police remain committed to protecting voters, electoral officials, observers, and materials throughout the exercise. He urged residents to stay calm, law-abiding, and cooperative, assuring them that the sanctity of the ballot would be upheld.
Meanwhile, voting commenced peacefully in several wards, with reports indicating a calm atmosphere across major polling centers.
