LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA) – Popular Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has ignited a heated exchange online after firing back at Shehu Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, for labeling President Bola Tinubu a “drug baron.”
The controversy began after Shehu Abubakar reacted to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments describing Nigeria as a “disgraced country.”
Trump made the statement while reportedly condemning alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria and hinting at possible U.S. military action, remarks that quickly went viral under the hashtag #DisgracedCountry on X social.
Defending Trump’s harsh words, Shehu wrote on X, “Why are some upset that Donald Trump called us disgraceful? When they announced a drug baron as our President, what do you call that? Prideful? I know it hurts our pride as a nation, but we have to first look inwards and hold ourselves accountable before we accuse outsiders.”

Seyi Law, a staunch supporter of President Tinubu and the APC, wasted no time clapping back. The comedian questioned Shehu’s moral standing, pointing to past allegations involving his father, Atiku Abubakar.
“This is coming from someone whose father was called a thief by his principal and indicted as a money launderer in the US. Someone whose father deleted his handler’s tweet about the extra-judicial killing of Deborah. Na really wa,” Seyi Law posted.
Seyi Law’s response has since fueled intense debate on social media, with supporters and critics trading opinions over both men’s statements.
Despite the backlash, Seyi Law has remained unshaken, doubling down on his loyalty to Tinubu and dismissing his critics with insults.
In a follow-up post, he declared, “Let me be unequivocal: I stand firmly with PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU GCFR, and that position is non-negotiable. Now, to the heart of the matter, if you once played the game, you cannot now position yourself as a moderator simply to secure a soft landing. This is not the time to preach patriotism; it is the time to act with resolve. We must put our hands to the plough and confront every act of terror with unrelenting force…Let’s rise above the very criticisms we once made and become the standard we demanded of others.”
Seyi Law’s unapologetic stance has reignited political tensions on social media, highlighting his increasingly outspoken voice on national debates.
