ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken decisive steps to resolve the party’s internal crisis by establishing a six-member reconciliation committee.
The committee, chaired by Hassan Adamu, includes one representative from each of the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, reflecting the party’s commitment to inclusive representation in addressing its leadership dispute.
The move follows recent internal conflicts within the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), which led to the suspension of key officers.
Last week, the NWC led by the National Chairman, Umar Damagum, suspended the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and three others over alleged anti-party activities.

In a counter move, Anyanwu, alongside four NWC members, also announced the suspension of Damagum and five national officers, accusing Damagum of incompetence and of being responsible for the series of defections the party has experienced in recent times.
However, at an emergency meeting chaired by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, in Abuja, the BoT appointed the reconciliation committee to broker peace between the two factions and restore stability within the party.
The BoT, while emphasizing neutrality, made it clear that it would not take sides with any of the warring groups. It reaffirmed that the PDP remains united under the Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC).
Additionally, the BoT welcomed and commended the recent ruling of an Oyo State High Court, which upheld the PDP’s right to regulate its internal affairs without external interference.
The BoT expressed optimism that the reconciliation committee would pave the way for lasting peace and renewed unity in the party as it prepares for future elections.
