ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has firmly opposed any form of foreign military intervention in Nigeria, declaring that the country must never be subjected to external aggression under any circumstance.
In a strongly worded statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sani said history would judge every Nigerian for their stance on the pressing national issues confronting the country.
He stated that he wanted to be remembered as one of those who stood against what he described as President Donald Trump’s “foreign military aggression” toward Nigeria.
The former senator also rejected Trump’s remark describing Nigeria as a “disgraced country,” insisting that no patriotic citizen should ever accept such an insult against the land of their birth.

“My country is not a ‘disgraced country’ and will never be a ‘disgraced country’,” Sani wrote.
“Anyone who is proud of the mother who gave him life in his ancestral land will not accept his land being called ‘disgraced’.”
He argued that Nigeria has never colonised, enslaved, invaded, or bombed any other nation, nor plundered their resources, and therefore does not deserve to be characterised in such demeaning terms.
While acknowledging that Nigeria has grappled with grave security challenges for more than fifteen years, Sani maintained that the country welcomes genuine assistance aimed at defeating terrorism but stressed that such help must never take the form of military intrusion or foreign occupation.
He called on the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to intensify efforts to protect citizens and strengthen national security, describing Nigeria as “the only country we can live in without a visa or request for a visa.”
“As a democrat, I respect the views of those who think otherwise,” he added.
“But I will never share in the opinion of those who support foreign aggression and I want history to record it that way.”
