OGUN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen continued his sensational run of form on Sunday, inspiring Galatasaray to a 3–1 comeback victory over Göztepe in the Turkish Super Lig.
The Nigerian forward, who also scored in midweek, proved decisive once again as the reigning champions fought back from an early deficit in Istanbul.
Göztepe stunned the home crowd just six minutes into the match with a fine opener from Efkan Bekiroglu, but their lead was short-lived.
Midway through the first half, Osimhen pounced on a loose back pass, expertly rounded the goalkeeper, and coolly finished to level the score.

The goal marked Osimhen’s 43rd league strike for Galatasaray, moving him level with head coach Okan Buruk on the club’s all-time scoring chart and placing him 18th overall. He is now just two goals shy of Dutch legend Wesley Sneijder among foreign players with the most league goals for the club.
The turning point came just before half-time when Göztepe defender Malcom Bokele Mputu received a second yellow card, reducing the visitors to ten men.
Galatasaray capitalized on their advantage after the break, with Gabriel Sara putting them ahead in the 63rd minute before Mauro Icardi sealed the 3-1 win just four minutes later.
The result secured Galatasaray’s third straight victory in all competitions and maintained their five-point lead over second-placed Trabzonspor.
Boost for Super Eagles
Osimhen’s goal was his ninth of the season across all competitions, a blistering run of form that is excellent news for Nigeria ahead of next month’s crucial World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon in Morocco.
Having missed out on direct qualification, the Super Eagles must overcome Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Gabon before potentially facing Cameroon or DR Congo. If the 26-year-old maintains his current level of sharpness, composure, and instinctive finishing, his form could be the difference-maker for Nigeria’s path to the 2026 World Cup.
