LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Nigerian singer and actor Yhemolee has had enough of digital handouts. In a blunt social media post, the actor called out the rising wave of online begging, describing social media as a “begging site” rather than a social platform.
Yhemolee, expressed his frustration with users who flood comment sections with unsolicited account numbers, often asking for financial help from complete strangers.
“It’s no longer news that social media isn’t social media anymore. It’s now a begging site. The only difference is that, unlike the beggars on the road, the beggars on the internet have data,” he said.

The entertainer, known for his breakout single ‘Mon Cheri’ featuring Chinko Ekun and Asake, lamented that even casual photo posts attract a barrage of requests.
“These days, when you post a picture, the first ten comments are account numbers. My major problem is those who have a PhD in begging. Please omit all those begging from my own picture,” he added.
Yhemolee’s post comes amid growing public debate about social media’s shift from personal expression to crowd-sourced charity, with many influencers echoing similar concerns about boundaries and digital entitlement.
As fame meets the harsh realities of digital culture, Yhemolee’s unfiltered take has highlighted a broader conversation about exploitation in the age of clicks and comments.
