LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Nigerian comedian and actor AY Makun has sounded the alarm on the dangers of social media deception, warning fans not to get caught up in the glossy illusion of online lifestyles.
In a video shared on Instagram, AY delivered a candid take on how social media distorts reality, creating a false narrative of success, wealth, and happiness. The entertainer compared online platforms to a “movie set,” where everything is staged.
“Many of the celebrities you envy are living on borrowed wigs, borrowed outfits, and borrowed lifestyles. Some take pictures in hotel lobbies and call them their new homes, while others pose with cars that don’t belong to them,” AY said.

He explained that behind the scenes of seemingly glamorous content are rented clothes, staged locations, and borrowed luxury items, all designed to project a life of success that exists only in the mind.
Therefore, AY urged his followers to resist the pressure to keep up with the curated lives they see online. Instead, he encouraged fans to focus on authenticity, live within their means, and embrace their own journey without comparison.
“Grow at your own pace. Don’t measure your progress with someone else’s highlight reel,” he advised.
With his brutally honest message, AY joins a growing list of celebrities using their platforms to shed light on the fake life that dominates social media culture.
