ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), May Agbamuche-Mbu, on Tuesday held a meeting with chairmen and secretaries of political parties at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting is part of a series of stakeholder consultations ahead of the Anambra governorship election scheduled for November.
Although details of the closed-door session were not immediately available, it was gathered that the engagement was aimed at enabling INEC and political party representatives to address grey areas, fine-tune logistics, and enhance cooperation to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.

This meeting marks Agbamuche-Mbu’s first official engagement with party leaders since she assumed office on October 7.
She took over from Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who is proceeding on terminal leave.
The transition was formally announced during a stakeholders’ meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) held last Tuesday at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.
During that meeting, Yakubu explained that his decision to step down was in accordance with Section 306, Subsections 1 and 2 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which provides for such a transition.
Agbamuche-Mbu will continue to serve as acting INEC chairman until the National Assembly confirms Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, who was approved as the new substantive chairman by the National Council of State last week.
