LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Three years may have passed, but the memory of Rico Swavey still lingers deeply in the hearts of fans, friends, and loved ones.
On the anniversary of his passing, the late Big Brother Naija star was honoured with moving tributes that painted a portrait of a life gone too soon, yet beautifully lived.
In a deeply emotional message posted on X, Rico’s management described him as a “beacon of love and creativity,” adding that his memory “blooms like a garden of everlasting flowers.”
“On this 3rd anniversary, we remember not just your departure, but the life you lived and the love you gave. Keep resting, Rico,” the post read.
Rico Swavey, born Patrick Fakoya, captured hearts during his time on BBNaija’s 2018 ‘Double Wahala’ edition, where his charm, artistic talent, and calm spirit made him a fan favorite.

However, on October 13, 2022, everything changed. A devastating car crash on a poorly lit stretch of the Lekki-Ajah Expressway left him critically injured, and later claimed his life.
In one of the most heartbreaking moments following his death, Rico’s mother, in an emotional interview with journalist Chude Jideonwo, recalled the unbearable pain of watching her son take his final breath in her arms at a hospital in Lekki, a moment no parent should ever face.
“I kept calling his name, begging him to come back to me,” she said through tears.
While speculation swirled around the cause of the crash, eyewitness Sunday Michael, the Uber driver with him that night, confirmed that Rico was not intoxicated before the accident.
In the wake of controversy, Doren Specialist Hospital also denied allegations of medical negligence and rejected viral claims that staff had filmed the reality star on his sickbed.
Earlier this year, Big Brother Naija Season 10 honoured Rico alongside two other late housemates, Francisca Owumi and Joseph Ada, with a minute of silence and a tribute segment that reminded audiences of the fragility of life behind the fame.
To this day, Rico Swavey’s name remains synonymous with kindness, artistry, and grace. From his soulful music to his unforgettable moments on screen, his legacy continues to shine in Nigeria’s entertainment world as fans celebrate a light that once warmed their hearts.
