LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Afrobeats star Crayon has shared an emotional tribute to his late mother, Evelyn Chukwu, who passed away on July 4th, leaving the singer shattered by the loss of his “rock” and “angel.”

In a deeply personal post on X, Crayon reflected on the pain of losing the woman who had been his greatest supporter, sharing the heartbreaking last moments he spent with her before her untimely death.

“July 4th was the darkest day of my life. I lost my soldier, my backbone, my angel and my pillar. My best friend, the best woman I have ever loved,” Crayon wrote, expressing the immense grief that followed his mother’s passing.

Crayon recalled their final conversation just days before her death, where she had prayed for him, as she did every new month. The prayer, he said, would be her last, a memory he will forever cherish amidst his sorrow.

“You sounded so healthy, like nothing was wrong. Only for my whole world to suddenly crumble right in front of me,” Crayon wrote, devastated by the stark contrast between their last conversation and the moment he found her lifeless in the hospital.

The pain of seeing his mother in her final moments has left a permanent scar on the singer, as he grappled with the questions he still doesn’t have answers to.

“Wetin come be the reason why I dey ginger? After all the suffer wey we don suffer for decades, na now wey God don bless us, you come die leave me?” He stated.

Crayon, who watched his mother carry the family through many struggles, questioned the unfairness of losing her just as they were beginning to enjoy the fruits of their hard work.

“Four days to my birthday you die leave me ehn mummy. Naso we go celebrate? Ehnn my sweetheart? Naso?” he wrote, expressing his disbelief at losing her just days before his own birthday.

The Afrobeats singer admitted that he would never be the same after her passing, acknowledging the deep emotional scars that would stay with him forever. Yet, despite the overwhelming grief, Crayon promised his mother that he would stay strong for the family.

“I promise to take care of Naza, and the rest of the family. I love you so much and I miss you every day! I will never say goodbye because I know you are living through me.” As he continues to mourn his mother, Crayon ended the tribute with a heartfelt promise, stating, “Till we meet again my angel.”
