LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-As the festive season nears, media personality Do2dtun is turning up the volume on an industry conversation that’s striking a chord with entertainers and event organizers alike.
In a timely post on his X social account, the renowned OAP issued a public service announcement, encouraging DJs and hypemen to rethink their rates in light of skyrocketing artist fees.
Do2dtun pointed out that many top-tier Nigerian musicians are already inflating their booking prices ahead of December’s high-demand period, a move that, he warned, may price out brands, event planners, and fans alike. But rather than lament, he offered a solution, stating that DJs and hypemen should step into the spotlight.

“This is a public service announcement to all Hypemen & DJs yet again. We are getting close to that time of the season where our beloved musicians will charge ridiculously, & maybe some brands & individuals can’t afford it. So, pls adjust your rate cards so you can fill in for them. Hype is alive,” he wrote.
The post quickly gained traction, resonating with industry insiders and nightlife enthusiasts facing the ripple effects of inflated artist bookings.
Adding fuel to the fire, comedian Mr. Jollof recently echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the “unrealistic” performance fees many artists demand. He warned that these excessive costs could ultimately water down the holiday experience, especially for grassroots events and mid-tier organizers.
With December fast approaching and demand for live entertainment on the rise, Do2dtun’s call taps into a broader conversation around entertainment affordability during one of Nigeria’s busiest social calendars, fondly called “Detty December.”
