OGUN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Nigerian football legend Segun Odegbami has issued a rallying cry to the Super Eagles, urging key players to secure the nation’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking at an event on the political power of sports, Odegbami stressed that Nigeria’s participation in the global tournament is critical for giving Africa a stronger voice in world affairs.
Odegbami specifically called on the team’s leading stars like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, William Troost-Ekong, Stanley Nwabali, Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare, and Ola Aina to take responsibility.

The 1980 AFCON winner emphasized that football, like other sports, is a vital platform to champion equality and stand against global injustices.
The Super Eagles currently sit third in Group C of the qualifiers with 11 points, trailing Benin and South Africa (both on 14 points) with two crucial matches remaining.
Nigeria is set to face the Lesotho “Crocodiles” in Polokwane, South Africa, on Friday, October 10, followed by their final group clash against the Benin “Cheetahs” in Uyo on Tuesday, October 14.
