ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took another dramatic turn on Wednesday after the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, unilaterally nullified the purported dissolution of the Akwa Ibom State Working Committee, contradicting an earlier announcement from the party’s National Publicity Secretary.
In a letter dated October 1, 2025, and addressed to the state chairman, Aniekan Akpan, Anyanwu insisted that the reported dissolution of the executive should be ignored.
He stressed that no formal meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) had authorised such action.

“For purposes of clarity, that press release should be discountenanced, because there was no formal sitting of the National Working Committee (NWC) in which such decision was taken,” Anyanwu wrote.
He accused the National Publicity Secretary of overstepping his bounds, pointing out that enforcing NWC decisions does not fall within the spokesperson’s official mandate.
According to him, the earlier declaration was “null and void and of no effect.”
Reaffirming the authority of the Akwa Ibom leadership, Anyanwu directed Akpan and his team to continue discharging their duties in line with the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).
The counter-announcement has intensified speculation about an ongoing power tussle within the party’s national hierarchy, as contradictory statements from top officials fuel uncertainty over the status of the Akwa Ibom chapter.
The party insiders have warned that the clash could further deepen internal divisions and raise questions about the legitimacy of decisions attributed to the NWC.
