ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Nigeria and the United Kingdom have agreed to deepen cooperation in key areas such as defence, trade, migration, and cybersecurity.
The commitment was made during a bilateral meeting in New York between Vice-President Kashim Shettima and the UK Deputy Prime Minister, David Lammy, where both leaders reaffirmed their determination to strengthen existing ties.
Vice-President Shettima also participated in the Global Leadership Council Meeting, where he highlighted Nigeria’s readiness to harness opportunities in the digital economy to create youth engagement and empower women and girls.

The meeting, held at the UNICEF headquarters, brought together heads of state, UN agency leaders, civil society representatives, and young innovators to discuss how to co-create and implement solutions on a global scale.
“Be assured that we are poised to take opportunities in the digital space to engage our youth and, most importantly, to empower our women because they are the backbone of our society,” Shettima said.
He further stressed that inclusivity remains central to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, pointing out that young people already occupy significant roles within Nigeria’s government.
