ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has paid his respects to the late Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, former Inspector-General of Police, who died over the weekend.
Okpebholo described Arase as a patriotic Nigerian and a distinguished son of Edo, noting that his legacy of service, professionalism, and commitment to national security would endure for generations.
Arase, Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, was widely admired for his reforms in community policing and criminal justice administration.
The governor’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Benin by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.
He praised the late Arase as a man of integrity and honour, whose invaluable contributions to the nation’s security framework stood out.

According to him, Arase rose to the pinnacle of his career through sheer hard work and dedication, serving Nigeria with distinction.
Okpebholo also reflected on Arase’s notable career in the Nigeria Police Force, highlighting his tenure as the 18th I-G, which he said was defined by reforms, professionalism, and a strong commitment to community policing.
He emphasized that Arase’s service would be remembered for generations, describing him as a beacon of hope and a source of inspiration for young police officers and aspiring leaders.
The governor prayed for the peaceful repose of Arase’s soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to endure the irreparable loss. He further found comfort in the fact that Arase lived a purposeful life that touched many.
“Arase’s contributions to the Nigeria Police Force and the country’s security architecture will be remembered for a long time, and his legacy would continue to inspire many,” he added.
