ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has assured Nigerians that the country’s security landscape is improving.
He urged citizens to continue supporting the armed forces.
General Musa made the remarks on Saturday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, during a conference jointly organised by the Kalthum Foundation for Peace, the Network of Civil Society Organisations, and the Borno State Youth Parliament.
The event focused on tackling violent extremism in the Northeast.
“I want to appeal that we should not get tired, things are getting better,” the CDS said.
“We must continue to cooperate with security forces, so that we can have total peace in Borno State and the Northeast in general.”
Addressing the theme, “Countering Violent Extremism: The Role of Educational Institutions and Students,” General Musa stressed the importance of youth involvement, especially students, in peace advocacy.
“Let us speak through social media, TV, and radio to counter extremist narratives and promote peace,” he urged.

He noted that the sensitisation initiative was timely and crucial to grassroots engagement.
“This sensitisation programme could not have come at a better time,” he said.
“At its core, it aims to raise awareness and stimulate positive action at the grassroots, to embrace peace as a way of life, and to counter radicalisation through education, dialogue, and civic responsibility.
“It is particularly important now to clarify right from wrong, especially as our adversaries exploit vulnerabilities such as illiteracy, poverty, and the fault lines of ethnicity and religion.”
Commending the organisers, General Musa emphasised the role of students as critical stakeholders in national security.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of the Kalthum Foundation for Peace, Ummukalthum Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the CDS, the armed forces, and other stakeholders for their persistent efforts in combating Boko Haram and other terrorist threats.
Following the event, General Musa visited wounded soldiers at Maimalari Military Hospital.
The visit included cash, medical supplies, and equipment donated by philanthropist Dr. Paul Odilli, who accompanied the CDS.
