LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Fans of Afrobeats superstar Davido were left shocked and disappointed over the weekend after the singer announced his withdrawal from the much-anticipated “Iconic Presents” concert at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The July 3rd event was set to feature heavyweights like 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige alongside the Nigerian hitmaker.
Taking to his Instagram Story on Saturday, Davido explained that he pulled out of the show due to unresolved issues with the event organizers, citing their failure to meet “key elements required to uphold the integrity and quality” of his performance.
In a move that touched a nerve among fans, Davido also hinted at a deeper issue, suggesting that African creatives were not being given the respect they deserve on international stages.

“African artists must be treated with the same level of professionalism and regard as any global act,” he subtly implied, without naming names.
Despite his absence, Davido assured his London fans that he would return for a separate headline show this summer as part of the European leg of his “5Alive” tour.
“I’ll be back this summer, London. Trust me, we’ll do it right,” he promised.
However, the drama didn’t end there. Music producer Samklef stirred further controversy after he alleged that 50 Cent had responded to questions about Davido’s exit by criticizing his stage performance.
According to Samklef, 50 Cent reportedly said Davido was not up to standard like his counterparts Wizkid and Burna Boy.
The jab sparked outrage among fans who were quick to defend their fave.
“Davido is one of the best performers out of Africa. Put some respect on his name!” one fan posted on X social, echoing the sentiments of many.
