LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- The All Progressives Congress (APC), in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, held a pivotal unity meeting on Friday in Evwreni, signaling a renewed commitment to party cohesion, peaceful politics, and strategic realignment with APC leadership at both state and national levels.
The gathering, hosted by the party’s founding leader in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor (OON), marked the first of its kind since a significant wave of defections from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC.
The meeting was aimed at integrating new members and positioning the party for future electoral victories.
A major outcome of the event was the unanimous passage of a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. The motion was moved by Professor Sam Iboje and seconded by Hon. Samuel Mariere.
Describing the event as a “turning point” in the politics of Ughelli North, Delta APC Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie, declared an end to factionalism and political violence in the area.
“When a group of people are united, nothing can stop them. We are now united, and nothing can stop us,” he said.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to equity and merit, saying, “In APC, your rights are determined by your input—not how long you’ve been here.”

Elder Sobotie also highlighted the peaceful atmosphere of the event, calling it a divine affirmation.
“When God is with you, He compels all circumstances to cooperate with you. That’s what we are seeing today,” he added, to resounding applause.
In his keynote address, Olorogun Emerhor emphasized the strategic nature of the unity effort.
Reflecting on the 2023 general election, he noted, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu didn’t get 25 percent in Delta. That was painful. But he has not turned his back on us. He considers Delta part of his constituency. His wife is from here. And he has supported this unity effort from the very top.”
Emerhor also praised Governor Oborevwori for contributing to the stability of the state’s political space. “The crisis-ridden APC is a thing of the past. We now speak with one voice, and we know our leader,” he declared.
The event also featured goodwill messages from notable new entrants into the APC, including Elder Terry Noah, Engr. Christabel Obiuvwevbie, Chief George Oyefie, and Hon. Onoriode Aguofure.
Terry Noah pledged full commitment on behalf of the new members, commending Emerhor for his foundational work in building the party. Engr. Obiuvwevbie, quoting Psalm 133:1, celebrated the prevailing spirit of brotherhood, “How good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity.”
A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation and unanimous adoption of an eight-point communiqué. Key resolutions included a collective resolve to maintain unity under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Others are the affirmation of a joint leadership structure under State Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Rt. Hon. Festus Agas, and Chief Terry Noah, a declaration of equal status for all APC members, rejecting any distinction between “old” and “new” members and commitment to peace, inclusiveness, and strategic planning for future elections.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call for collaboration across party ranks, as Ughelli North APC looks to solidify its position as a stronghold in Delta State politics.
