ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Streaming platform Netflix has announced a fresh increase in its subscription rates for Nigerian users the first adjustment in 2025 and the third since 2024.

According to an update on the company’s website, the Premium Plan now costs N8,500 per month, up from N7,000 a 21.43% jump.

The Standard Plan, which offers HD quality and support for multiple screens, now goes for N6,500, marking an 18.18% increase from its previous N5,500 rate.

Other tiers have also seen upward adjustments: the Basic Plan has risen by 14.29%, from N3,500 to N4,000, while the Mobile Plan, Netflix’s most affordable offering, now costs N2,500, up 13.64% from N2,200.

In 2024, Netflix implemented two separate price hikes within a span of just three months—first in April, followed by another in July.

At the time, the company explained the increase as part of a global pricing strategy designed to support content growth and boost revenue.

“As we invest in and improve Netflix, we’ll occasionally ask our members to pay a little extra to reflect those improvements,”

the company stated in a letter to shareholders.

“This helps drive the positive flywheel of additional investment to further improve and grow our service,” the letter added.

Although the latest price adjustments have not been directly attributed to inflation, Netflix acknowledged that its pricing reflects local market conditions, including taxes and inflation.
