LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde, famously known as KWAM 1, has paid a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Princess Halima Anifowoshe, crediting her as a foundational influence in his musical journey.
Speaking during a podcast interview promoting his latest project, “Ganusi: The Album Fuji Classical”, the 68-year-old icon revealed that his mother not only taught him the basics of music but also served as his composer on numerous occasions.
In a deeply emotional reflection, K1 disclosed that his mother once dreamed of becoming a musician herself but was denied the opportunity due to her royal lineage and societal expectations placed on women at the time.

“The song ‘Mama’ is to the memory of my mother, who taught me the basics of music and singing. She was a young lady with a passion for music, a princess by birth, but couldn’t pursue it because she was expected to marry and uphold royal responsibilities,”
“But everything she had, her talent, was transferred to me by God. She composed for me several times while she was alive and played a vital role in my musical development,” he said.
“It’s only honourable for me to remember her with a blessed track,” KWAM 1 added, stating that dedicating a track to her was his way of honoring her lasting impact, especially after she passed away in January 2025.
