LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Veteran Yoruba actress Jaiye Kuti has shed light on the pressures of staying youthful and relevant in the ever-evolving Nigerian entertainment industry.
“You don’t want to get old,” Jaiye said in a candid interview, emphasizing the importance of physical appearance and personal branding in maintaining a successful career in showbiz.
According to her, the fear of aging is a reality many entertainers face due to the visual nature of the profession.
“In the entertainment industry, you don’t want to get old because what you sell is your face and your personality,” she noted.

Jaiye explained that while looks matter, nurturing one’s talent is equally vital for long-term relevance. She urged fellow creatives to continuously evolve and refine their craft, especially when it’s a natural, God-given gift.
“Whatever talent you are blessed with—let me say a God-given gift—needs to be renewed constantly. The age is there, yes, but that’s why we focus a lot on rebranding,” she explained.
Speaking on her personal wellness routine, the actress revealed that although her neighborhood gym is temporarily closed, she remains committed to staying fit and healthy.
“I go to the gym once in a while, but the gym in my area has been closed. I love walking, so I walk every day. When you do that regularly, it helps your skin, helps your nerves, and I also take a lot of water,” she shared.
Kuti’s comments offer a glimpse into the balancing act many Nollywood stars perform, maintaining both their craft and their image in an industry where reinvention is key.
