ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has assured members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that there is no cause for alarm regarding the 2026 governorship election, urging them to stay calm and trust in divine guidance.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Friday during the May edition of the monthly Evening of Praise and Worship programme, Oyebanji reacted to the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which fixed the next Ekiti governorship election for June 20, 2026.
The governor expressed firm confidence in God’s plan for his political journey, stating, “God is in full control.” Emphasizing his faith, Oyebanji described himself as “God’s project” and “on a divine mission,” asserting that he remains unshaken about what lies ahead.
“I have received more than 200 messages today on the INEC notification,” he said.

“This is the day the Lord has made and we are glad and rejoicing in it. We know that this day will come, so you should be excited. As for me, I am not worried, I am excited, I have nothing to fear because we serve a living God.”
Addressing APC members in attendance, the governor encouraged them to remain focused and trust in divine victory.
“Let me encourage all APC members who are here because the first stage is the primary election, and the second stage is the general election. To all APC members that are here, put your mind at rest, the battle is of the Lord, and he has given us victory because doubt itself is a sin, so I will never doubt the ability of God to get things done for me,” he said.
“I am God’s project, I am on assignment, and the Lord that has sent me on assignment is more than able. So let us put our minds at rest. God has done it,” he added.
Oyebanji also highlighted the achievements of his administration over the past two and a half years, noting progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic development, and human capital development.
According to him, these achievements are “a testament to our unwavering dedication to the state’s progress and a clear indication that the journey of transformation will only advance to greater heights.”
Present at the event were senior government officials, including Deputy Governor Mrs Monisade Afuye; Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye; Secretary to the State Government, Prof Abibat Adubiaro; Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi; Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo; and Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ekiti, Rev Emmanuel Aribasoye.
