ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Katsina State Government has demanded the cancellation of the recent English Language examination conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), citing a significant delay in the nationwide commencement of the paper on Wednesday.

The state’s stance was made public in Katsina by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa-Musawa, during an official visit to the WAEC office in the state capital.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the demand stems from a petition submitted by Hajiya Ummukhair Ahmed, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

WAEC had earlier attributed the delay to intensified efforts aimed at curbing examination malpractice, particularly the leakage of question papers.

“Students had to write the examination at night without light until torch lights, handset lights, and security lights were provided,” Musa-Musawa stated.

She urged schools, parents, and members of the public to remain calm and await the outcome of the petition.
