ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has once again dropped a strong hint about his likely defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), subtly suggesting a political shift, likely toward the All Progressives Congress (APC) without naming the party outright.
Speaking during a state banquet held in Uyo to commemorate his second anniversary in office, Governor Eno expressed deep affection for the PDP, while at the same time alluding to an imminent political move.
“I respect our party, the PDP. I love the PDP. But we all know the way things are,” he told attendees.
“So, whatever happens, wherever the journey of life takes me, I will always love you. We’ve built strong friendships, and we will always keep them.”

Since launching his subtle campaign for political realignment, Governor Eno has avoided directly naming the APC as his next platform. Nevertheless, his open political alignment with President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio ahead of the 2027 general elections has reinforced speculation.
Continuing his remarks, the governor added, “If you have anything to do, invite me I will come. I will always be there. But it’s time to progressively move. That again will not affect anything in this state. We do not govern based on political affiliations.”
He used the occasion to call for unity among Akwa Ibom’s political stakeholders, regardless of party lines.
“I would love to see all our party leaders seated together like this, across party lines. We must always put Akwa Ibom first. We know we have Akwa Ibomites in the PDP, APC, YPP, and IPAC,” he said.
Governor Eno emphasized the importance of putting the people’s needs above political interests: “What matters most is that there is food, security, and welfare for our people. The ARISE Agenda provides for all these.”
He concluded with a message aimed at fostering statewide unity: “Whenever anyone flies into Akwa Ibom, please drop your party tag and know you are flying into a united Akwa Ibom.”
