ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Police operatives of the Enugu State Command, in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch personnel and vigilant community members, have rescued a 13-year-old girl allegedly kidnapped for ritual murder in Umuojor village, Ishiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area.

According to a press statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the operation took place in the early hours of May 27, 2025, at about 3:15 a.m.

The rescue effort also led to the arrest of three male suspects identified as Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38), all allegedly connected to the crime.

However, the prime suspect, High Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, popularly known as “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” a native doctor and a prominent member of the community, fled the scene and is currently on the run.

During the rescue mission, police discovered two decomposing corpses one male and one female buried in a concrete-sealed pit within an uncompleted building.

The structure, owned and used as a shrine by the fleeing native doctor, was allegedly a site for heinous ritual killings.

According to investigations, the deceased victims were recently murdered and buried there by the suspects for ritual purposes.

Authorities believe the rescued 13-year-old girl was moments away from being killed in the same manner before she was saved.

Acting in accordance with state laws, the Enugu State Government has since demolished the buildings owned by the fleeing prime suspect, which were used as a base for the criminal operations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, who promptly visited the crime scene, praised the efforts of the police operatives, local security groups, and community members for their timely intervention and successful collaboration.

CP Giwa has also directed the Command’s Tactical Squads, as well as Investigation and Intelligence Units, to intensify their manhunt for the fleeing native doctor and any other accomplices still at large.

He assured the public that the Command is firmly resolved to ensure justice is served.
