ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)-The legal team of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly, has strongly criticized what it describes as a troubling trend of selective justice.
This follows the Federal Government’s recent decision to file criminal charges against the senator, even as a dozen petitions she filed between March and May 2025 remain unaddressed.
In a statement released Wednesday in Abuja and signed by her counsel, Uju Nwoduwu, the team revealed that the 12 petitions lodged by Akpoti-Uduaghan concerning serious issues such as cyberstalking, threats to life, defamation, and an alleged assassination plot have received no attention from the Nigeria Police Force or relevant security agencies.
“The public expects law enforcement and prosecutorial bodies to uphold fairness, the rule of law, and impartial justice in all matters involving her,” the legal team stated.
They expressed grave concern that while Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s complaints have been left uninvestigated, counter-allegations from individuals she named including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello have been rapidly processed, leading to criminal charges against her.

“This selective response raises deep concerns about biased enforcement of justice,” the statement read.
The lawyers further emphasized that some of the petitions involve high-profile personalities and include serious incidents like the abduction and attempted assassination of a protocol officer.
According to Vanguard, despite currently being out of the country on personal engagements, the legal team confirmed that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has acknowledged official communication regarding the charges.
“She has assured that she will present herself for arraignment once a date is confirmed.
“She remains fully committed to due process,” the team added, while thanking the public for its widespread condemnation of what it referred to as “an extremely curious criminal charge”, the said.
The team expressed optimism that “injustices against her shall not be sustained” and reiterated its call for impartial investigations into all outstanding petitions.
They urged that justice be applied equally to all parties involved, regardless of their status.
