LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)- Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, affectionately known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” recently celebrated a major milestone – his 36th birthday!
At just 16 years old, Prince Al-Waleed’s life took a dramatic turn after a devastating car accident in London in 2005. The crash caused a severe brain hemorrhage, leaving him in a vegetative state and reliant on life support.
Nearly two decades later, he’s still receiving top-notch care at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a testament to his family’s unwavering dedication. His parents, Prince Khaled bin Talal and Princess Reema bint Talal, have been his rock, caring for him with love and dedication.
Al-Waleed’s family hasn’t given up hope on his recovery, especially his father Prince Khaled, who remains resolute that his son will recover, saying, “If God had wanted him to die in the accident, he would have been in his grave now.”
A beloved member of Saudi’s royal family, Prince Al-Waleed has shown occasional signs of responsiveness over the years, including a heartwarming moment in 2020 when he moved his hand in response to his aunt’s call.

Despite medical experts’ suggestions to withdraw life support, his father Prince Khaled remains committed to his son’s care even though his occasional movements haven’t led to full consciousness.
As Al-Waleed marked his 36th birthday, on April 18, 2025, social media was flooded with messages of support and prayers.
His mother, Princess Reema bint Talal, posted a heartfelt Arabic message on X, with a collage of memorable pictures of his time spent with family, expressing her love and hope for his recovery.
Translated to English, the post reads,
“My beloved Al-Walid bin Khalid, twenty-one years have passed and you are always present in our hearts and in the hearts of your loved ones in our prayers. O Allah, heal your servant Al-Walid, for no one knows of his weakness except You, Lord of the heavens and the earth.”
The outpouring of support shows the enduring hope and familial devotion that defines Al-Waleed’s story, highlighting humanity’s struggle with fate, faith, and existence.
