LAGOS, Nigeria(VOICE OF NAIJA)-Nigerian singer, Segun Johnson has opened up about his humble beginnings in the music industry.

In a recent interview with Teju Babyface, Johnson revealed that hunger drove him to pursue a career in music, starting out as a backup singer for many freestyle singers who anchored live bands at events.

Johnson candidly shared that his primary motivation for entering the music industry was to alleviate his hunger.

He said, “Ebi ni, hunger ni. If you are in Nigeria, you don’t have a choice,” meaning hunger compelled him to pursue music.

Despite not earning much, he continued to take on gigs and backup for his seniors. He disclosed that he always felt shy when he met the clients he anchored for seeing him as a backup to another at another event.

All these happened while he squatted with his brother and one day Johnson prayed to God to make him too busy and unavailable as a backup to his seniors.

He excitedly revealed that his prayers were answered, and he is now recognized everywhere he goes as a star.

Johnson, known for his lively hype music expressed gratitude to his senior colleagues who gave him the platform to start and the encouragement to pursue his own gigs.
