ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has once again failed to appear before the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight, despite being formally invited for an interactive session.
The committee, established by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and inaugurated on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, had scheduled its session for Thursday, April 17, 2025, before rescheduling it to April 24 at the request of Ibas.
According to Vanguard, the session was intended to enable the committee to deliberate on political and administrative developments in Rivers State following Ibas’s appointment as sole administrator.
Yet, despite being in Abuja for the National Economic Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Ibas did not attend the rescheduled meeting.
The committee, chaired by Rep. Julius Ihonvbere, has not communicated any formal reason for Ibas’s second absence.
It also remains unclear whether a formal invitation letter was officially received or acknowledged by the Rivers administrator, as no details were provided by the committee.

Following the no-show, Rep. Ihonvbere and other lawmakers were seen leaving Committee Room 301 of the National Assembly Complex without speaking to the press. When approached for comments, Ihonvbere simply said, “No comment.”
As a result, the meeting between the Ad-Hoc Committee and Vice Admiral Ibas has now been postponed indefinitely.
Meanwhile, panic has reportedly spread across local government councils in Rivers State after Ibas issued a directive for all 23 LG chairmen to submit detailed financial records covering the last two years.
The implications of this sudden move are yet to be clarified, but observers view it as part of the ongoing tensions surrounding governance in the state.
